UPDATE: Land Clearing for Sahuarita Road Project

Some will notice that trees are being cut down and land is being cleared on the FICO farm just west of the Sahuarita Road and Old Nogales Highway intersection.  This work is completely unrelated to FICO’s ongoing efforts to develop a long-term, 40-50 year master plan for its farmland.  That plan, Sahuarita Farms, is still under consideration by the Town of Sahuarita and Pima County.

The land clearing currently underway is only for the reconstruction of Sahuarita Road and the realignment of Old Nogales Highway as part of the voter-approved, 20-year Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) plan.

In fact, as it has done with other community projects such as Walden Grove High School, FICO donated the land now being cleared to the Town of Sahuarita. FICO’s donation has allowed for the RTA’s work to proceed expeditiously so that the benefits of this infrastructure improvement can be realized.
